The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, has witnessed the signing of an agreement between Telecom Egypt (the first integrated telecom operator in Egypt and one of the largest subsea cable operators) and Raya Information Technology (Raya IT), a subsidiary of Raya Holding for Financial Investments.

Telecom Egypt and The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) have today signed an agreement for, and activated, the second ICANN Managed Root Server (IMRS) installation in Africa, hosted in Cairo, Egypt.

Eutelsat OneWeb has entered into a multi-year master distribution agreement with NEC XON, marking a strategic move to provide top-tier Low Earth Orbit (LEO) connectivity across Sub-Saharan Africa. This agreement encompasses not only the deployment of Eutelsat OneWeb's LEO satellite-based network but also includes provisions for installation services and extensive training throughout the region.

There is a lot of enthusiasm surrounding the arrival of 5G mobile connectivity in Africa. Sub-Saharan Africa is projected to have 226 million 5G mobile network subscriptions by 2030, reflecting a 17% adoption rate compared to 0.2% in 2022, according to the report by GSMA. Twenty-seven operators have already launched commercial 5G mobile services in 16 countries within the region.
