The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) is initiating its integrated Strategic Plan for the period 2023–2026. Over the next three years, CRAN will focus on improving service provision to customers and addressing the affordability of ICT services in the sector. The enhancement of the legal framework for electronic transactions, postal services, data protection and cybersecurity also feature prominently, while a new cybernetic incident response team will also be established.

The new plan, which will come into effect on April 1, will enable CRAN to continue its commitment to promoting technological innovation, improving the customer experience and increasing the availability and uptake of telecom services in support of the government’s socio-economic development and digital transformation programs, including Vision 2030, Harambe Prosperity Plan II (HPPII) and the Fifth National Development Plan (NDP5).

Launching the latest strategy, CRAN’s CEO, Emilia Nghikembua, said, “As a dynamic regulator of the ICT sector, we are instrumental in harnessing the power of ICT, moving beyond the constraints of “place” and “time” and transforming Namibia and its people into an active knowledge-based society that derives the full socio-economic benefits of ICT.”
