Stay Alert: Avoid Sharing Photos of Your Children on Social Networks

Social Media

“Share with caution” is the message of a new German advertisement that raises awareness about the dangers of sharing images of children on social media. “More than 75% of parents share data about their children on social networks,” and “80% of them have followers they have never met,” are some of the statistics presented in the video that alerts parents to the risks of sharing photos of children on the Internet.

In a prevention advertisement launched by Deutsche Telekom, a little girl is aged with the help of artificial intelligence and addresses her parents: “The photos you share of me can be downloaded and used by anyone.” Children whose photos are available online are exposed to numerous dangers, such as identity theft, scams, online harassment and child exploitation.

According to a 2020 report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 50% of the photos published on pedopornographic forums are pictures taken by parents and shared publicly.
