The GSMA, in partnership with Ethio Telecom, has launched its first comprehensive report on Ethiopia’s digital transformation in Addis Ababa. This report explores the successes, opportunities, and challenges in developing a strong digital economy.
The report highlights the significant impact of Ethiopia’s digital transformation on social and economic growth, emphasizing its role in driving innovation and promoting sustainable development. It also acknowledges ongoing efforts to enhance the country's digital ecosystem.
The telecom sector has emerged as a major economic driver in Ethiopia, contributing 8% to the GDP in 2023 through ecosystem impacts, indirect contributions, and productivity gains, according to the report.
These insights are expected to elevate global awareness of Ethiopia’s digital transformation efforts.
At the event, Eng. Balcha Reba, Director General of the Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA), commended the GSMA and Ethio telecom for organizing the launch. He stressed the event's importance in bringing industry stakeholders together and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting telecom operators to ensure the industry's continued growth and development.
