Algeria is fast-tracking its digital transformation efforts, unveiling an ambitious plan to implement over 500 projects between 2025 and 2026 as part of its ‘Digital Algeria 2030’ strategy.
Meriem Benmouloud, High Commissioner for Digitalization, announced the initiative during a Government-Walis meeting at the Palais des Nations in Algeria.

Five-Fold Strategy
The plan focuses on modernizing public services, with 75% of the projects set to enhance transparency and simplify administrative processes. An Interactive National Portal for Digital Services will be established and an interoperability platform, designed to centralize procedures, minimize unnecessary travel, and improve access to information for remote communities will be launched.
"Algeria is undergoing a clear transition toward digitalization, requiring collective efforts to achieve the desired transformation and position the country at the forefront of global rankings," emphasized Benmouloud.
The strategy encompasses five key pillars: infrastructure, training, digital governance, digital economy, and digital society; all of which are designed to position Algeria as a regional leader in innovation and modern governance.

E-Governance for Transformation
Despite this progressive approach, mercurial challenges remain. Algeria currently ranks 116th out of 193 countries in the United Nations (UN) E-Government Development Index (EGDI) (as of 2024), closing the year with a score of 0.5956—albeit an improvement from its 2022 score which closed at 0.5611.
Despite these scores, by adopting e-administration as a central focus within its broader digital transformation agenda, Algeria has already demonstrated its ability to streamline administrative procedures and enhance service efficiency. Existing platforms like ‘Bawabatak’ exemplify Algeria's commitment to establishing e-government frameworks, reflecting a developmental model that aligns with global digital trends and can be futuristically implemented, while underscoring the government’s progress in institutionalizing digital governance.
