Ericsson and MTN Benin have collaborated to recycle MTN Benin’s end-of-life electronic and electrical equipment as part of the Ericsson Product Take-Back Program. The collaboration has resulted in the collection, decommissioning, transportation and recycling of over 123 metric tons of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) since 2021.

The adoption of 5G technology in Africa is surging significantly, with a 47-fold increase in subscriptions projected over the next five years. Excluding North Africa, this forecast paints a dynamic picture of the continent's digital transformation. According to the Ericsson Mobility Report for 2023, 5G subscriptions are anticipated to jump from 3 million in December of the previous year to an estimated 140 million by 2028. This remarkable growth, while demonstrating Africa's technological leap forward, conceals a relevant detail: the pace of 5G deployment in North Africa has lagged behind, presenting a unique set of challenges and opportunities in the region's pursuit of cutting-edge connectivity.

Ghada Labib, representing H.E. Dr. Amr Talaat, the Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), was an esteemed attendee at the inaugural Metaverse and AI Week in Egypt. This event was a collaborative effort between Meta, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), Egypt’s University of Informatics (EUI) and the American University in Cairo (AUC).

This business use case showcases how B-yond deployed their innovative solution, "Continuous Assurance" (CA), to transform the Security Operations Center (SOC) operations of Ooredoo Qatar. The solution's unique capabilities include early anomaly detection, root cause analysis and identification of impacted customers, resulting in quicker incident response times and improved troubleshooting.

ESCWA organized a workshop on building trust in digital government services in collaboration with the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Union (AICTU), the Internet Society and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The workshop took place over two days, on September 11 and 12, 2023. The opening session on the first day was attended by Rola Dashti, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA; Engineer Mohamed Ben Omar, the Director-General of the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization; and Dr. Najla El Riachi, the Minister of Administrative Development in Lebanon.
