Digital,” the 17th edition of the Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit successfully concluded its two-day gathering with the participation of a broad range of professionals, including telecom operators, telecom vendors, industry regulators, government officials, content providers, cybersecurity experts and consultants, among other attendees.

The Smart Africa Alliance has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Bayobab and Africa50 to support Project East to West with regulatory and policy engagements. Project East to West aims to link landlocked African countries with an extensive terrestrial fiber optic network.

A panel of industry experts, representing prominent telecom companies, technology providers, and regulatory bodies, shed light on the transformative potential of 5G Advanced in various sectors and the ground-breaking initiatives that have set the stage for the 5G-Advanced revolution. In unity, they joined hands to announce 2024 as the first year of the 5G-A era in the Middle East.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, has witnessed the signing of an agreement between Telecom Egypt (the first integrated telecom operator in Egypt and one of the largest subsea cable operators) and Raya Information Technology (Raya IT), a subsidiary of Raya Holding for Financial Investments.

As a wrap-up to the 17th edition of Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit, Telecom Review Group organized its Excellence Awards ceremony to recognize exceptional global and regional companies, along with industry leaders, for their innovative initiatives and influential contributions throughout 2023.

There is a lot of enthusiasm surrounding the arrival of 5G mobile connectivity in Africa. Sub-Saharan Africa is projected to have 226 million 5G mobile network subscriptions by 2030, reflecting a 17% adoption rate compared to 0.2% in 2022, according to the report by GSMA. Twenty-seven operators have already launched commercial 5G mobile services in 16 countries within the region.
