A Nigerian subsidiary of Airtel Africa Plc, Airtel Networks Limited (Airtel Nigeria), has obtained spectrum from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) with 100 MHz on the 3500 MHz band and 2 x 5 MHz on the 2600 MHz band.
The acquisition of 5G spectrum will underscore Airtel Africa’s growth strategy of offering higher speed and greater connectivity to enhance customer service for its customers.
The telecom stated on the Nigerian Stock Exchange that the transaction was for a gross value of $316.7 million and would be paid in local currency.
The rollout of 5G will accelerate the availability and efficiency of fixed wireless access products across the country, assisting Airtel Nigeria in fulfilling the National Broadband Plan goals.
The primary advantages of 5G will include faster speeds, lower latency, more network capacity and a better overall user experience.
