Egyptian telecom giants Telecom Egypt, Vodafone, Etisalat, and Orange have recently entered into green energy acquisition agreements with the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA).
This collaborative effort aligns with the Egyptian government's dedication to promoting clean energy initiatives across multiple sectors, aimed at reducing carbon emissions as outlined in Egypt's 2050 National Climate Strategy. The objective is to increase the proportion of renewable energies in the country's energy mix to 42% by 2035, a significant leap from the 20% achieved in 2022.
The partnership between the telecom operators and the government plays a crucial role in expediting the realization of climate objectives, considering the substantial energy consumption by the telecom sector. This collaboration allows telecom operators to not only reduce their long-term energy expenses but also minimize their environmental footprint. It marks a significant step towards sustainable practices in the telecommunications industry while supporting the government's broader green energy agenda.
