Huawei has launched its LEAP digital skills development programme. Announced at its ICT Competition Awards Ceremony, LEAP aims to help advance the ICT skills of more than 100 000 people across the Sub-Saharan Africa region within three years.

SEACOM the pan-African telecommunications service provider, announced it will acquire selected infrastructure assets from Africell in Uganda. The acquisition marks a significant step for SEACOM and is a testament to the company’s commitment to providing, competitive end-to-end connectivity and ICT solutions across the region.

Nokia reported a solid increase in profits in 2021 and issued a confident outlook for the coming years as sales rose despite supply problems. "I would like to call it a transformational year," CEO Pekka Lundmark commented after the group posted a net profit of 1.6 billion euros ($1.8 billion), driven by a 1.6 % increase in sales to 22.2 billion euros.

Technology giant Huawei and Tanzania Telecommunications Company Ltd. (TTCL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the deployment of FTTH (fiber to the home), fixed wireless network (4G) and countryside deployment and expansion of mobile network and fixed network.

Nokia announced the launch of its cloud-native solution, Adaptive Cloud Networking, to transform service provider cloud networks to be consumable, agile and automated. The comprehensive solution is designed to respond to the unpredictable demands of the 5G era by supercharging a service provider’s data center fabric and seamlessly extending its operations to the edge clouds. This innovation in the way telco clouds are built and operated will enable service providers to reinforce their critical role in the 5G digital network value chain.

Nokia announced two new software-as-a-service (SaaS) services in the areas of security and analytics, as part of its strategy to give communication service providers (CSPs) and enterprises a more flexible and cost-effective way for servicing their customers, and operating and monetizing their networks, as advanced 5G services are rolled out.

Vertiv, a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, announced the Clean Hydrogen Partnership will provide EUR 2.5 million to help fund a project to develop low-carbon fuel cells to power data centres. It is hoped this could reduce carbon emissions from operations by up to 100%. The EcoEdge PrimePower (E2P2) project is a novel proof-of-concept initiative aiming to develop and demonstrate low environmental impact fuel cells that provide economic and resilient prime power solutions for the data centre environment.
