CommScope reported its results for the second quarter of 2022, showing an 8.5% year-on-year (YoY) increase in core net sales. Momentum continues to build in the Connectivity and Cable Solutions segment as net sales increased 26% year-over-year (YoY).
Nokia has announced partnership with Orange Egypt to support its subscriber growth over the next five years. Nokia’s 3GPP-compliant SDM solution includes Nokia Registers – Home Subscriber Server, Home Location Register and One-NDS (Network Directory Server), plus 5G’s Unified Data Management and Authorization Server Function. Together the components will allow Orange Egypt to better manage subscriber data across different technology networks.

MTN Rwandacell Plc (MTN Rwanda) announced its unaudited results for the half-year ended 30 June 2022. Mobile subscribers increased by 1.7% year-on-year (YoY) to 6.6 million. Active data subscribers increased by 23.9% YoY to 2.2 million, supported by the data growth initiatives. Fintech revenue maintained strong YoY growth of 52.4%, which was attributable to both Xtratime service and MoMo. Also, service revenue was up by 21.5% to Rwf 105.1 billion.
SES made public its financial results for the first six months of 2022, announcing revenues of €899 million (+2.8% YoY as reported) and adjusted EBITDA of €545 million (flat YoY as reported). Adjusted Net Profit improved by 11% YoY to €168 million, while leverage reduced to 3.0 times.

Nokia has announced that they have signed a five-year 5G deal with AST SpaceMobile, Inc., the company building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network accessible directly by standard 4G or 5G mobile devices. Under the deal, Nokia and AST SpaceMobile will work to achieve their joint ambition to expand universal coverage and connect underserved communities around the world. The launch of AST SpaceMobile’s BlueWalker 3 test satellite later this year will kick off global testing with mobile network operators on six continents.
MTN Nigeria Communications Plc (MTN Nigeria) announced its unaudited results for the half-year ended 30 June 2022. Mobile subscribers increased by 7.6 million to 74.1 million, reflecting a pleasing acceleration in the run-rate of monthly net additions during Q2. Active data subscribers increased by 13.2% to 36.8 million supported by the data growth initiatives. As for fintech, subscribers rose by 87.3% to 11.5 million, and service revenue was up by 19.9% to N947.9 billion. Additionally, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) grew by 22.1% to N509.3 billion.
As society continues to transform, there will be challenges that 5G will be unable to meet. By 2030, we will have been shaped by 5G for 10 years. Lessons will have been learned from its deployment, and new needs and services will emerge despite its flexibility. This calls for further evolution: the new 6G era.
The Nigerian Federal Government is considering imposing a 5% excise duty on telecommunications services provided in the country, including calls, SMS and data services. Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance and National Planning, made the disclosure at a stakeholder forum organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in Abuja.
