During the Digital Council Conext Digital Infrastructure Summit, held in South Africa, Kundo Mathew, deputy minister of information, communication and information technologies, said that the Tanzanian government is aiming to connect 80% of the population to the internet and to increase broadband internet usage from 45% to 80% by 2025.

Government subsidies are being provided to mobile operators so they can upgrade their telecom infrastructure and extend their network coverage in areas not covered by telecom signals. It is part of Tanzania's effort to accelerate digital transformation, which requires access to quality connectivity for as many people as possible, capable of supporting new uses, including online administration. In addition, since last June, the country has benefited from China’s support for the development of the ICT sector and the digital economy.

According to the regulator’s statistics for the third quarter of the financial year 2021/2022, Tanzania had 29.9 million internet subscribers with a total consumption of 170,000 terabytes of data, while in the previous quarter, 29.8 million people consumed 136,000 terabytes of data.
