“Following information circulating online and on social media regarding CEO Nikolai Beckers, Ooredoo Algeria abstains from providing any comments. For now, Ooredoo Algeria is gathering all the relevant information.” That was the declaration made by the Algerian operator in an official press release.

The declaration was published after media sources have cited that the CEO of Ooredoo Algeria was expelled by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune because Ooredoo Algeria was insisting on laying off more than 900 Algerian employees working at the company when the business was not suffering from any financial problems and was making profits.

According to Algerian broadcaster Ennahar, Beckers was escorted by Algerian security forces to a local airport for deportation. The German CEO was heard in the local offices of the internal security for hours on the expiration of his working permit, presumable money transfer and the dismissal of around 900 employees, among other things.
