Ericsson announced a strong mobile subscription result in Q2 2022. About 70 million new 5G subscriptions were added globally during the second financial quarter of 2022, the latest update to the Ericsson Mobility Report reveals. The additions brought the total number of 5G subscriptions globally to 690 million as of the end of the second quarter, 2022.

In Q2 2022, the total number of mobile subscriptions was around 8.3 billion, with a net addition of 52 million subscriptions during the quarter. In addition, mobile subscriber numbers grew by 6.1 billion. The difference between the number of subscriptions and the number of subscribers is due to inactive subscriptions and multiple device ownership. Mobile broadband accounted for about 86% of all mobile subscriptions. Also, 218 communications service providers had launched commercial 5G services and 24 communications service providers had launched 5G standalone (SA) networks. Mobile network data traffic rose by 39% between Q2 2021 and Q2 2022. Furthermore, total monthly global mobile network data traffic reached 100 EB (exabytes).
