Algérie Télécom celebrated a milestone moment—its 22nd anniversary—alongside two major achievements: connecting more than two million households to its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network and launching WiFi 7 at the iconic Hotel Aurassi, a regional first that further cements Algeria’s place on the international tech stage.
The event was attended by the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki; Minister of Vocational Training, Yacine El Mahdi Oualid; Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-enterprises, Noureddine Ouadah; and High Commissioner for Digitization, Meriem Benmouloud.
Past Achievement: Algérie Télécom Celebrates 1 Million FTTH Subscriptions
Zerrouki highlighted that Algeria had gone from a modest 53,000 FTTH subscribers at the beginning of 2020 to over 2 million in just a few years.
“This qualitative leap demonstrates that, with political will and the right competencies, we can catch up with the global digital economy and connect Algeria to the heart of technological innovation,” said Zerrouki.
The event marked the unveiling of a strategic project developed in close collaboration with Huawei and Algérie Télécom Business. More than a technological advancement, the introduction of WiFi 7 represents a strong commitment to driving Algeria toward digital excellence. The WiFi 7 rollout achieved download speeds of 1.6 to 2.1 Gbps and upload speeds of 1.3 Gbps to 1.5 Gbps, establishing Hotel Aurassi as a new benchmark for high-performance connectivity catering to both business and leisure travelers alike.
