Orange and the German Development Cooperation have inaugurated an “Orange Digital Center” at Monrovia, a digital ecosystem entirely dedicated to the development of digital skills and innovation. The event was attended by the highest political and administrative authorities from Liberia; representatives of Germany in Liberia; members of the Orange Liberia board; and representatives of Orange Middle East and Africa.

Telkom, South Africa’s third-largest cellular network provider, has termed the government’s proposed move to switch off 3G wireless technology by March 30, 2025, as “unrealistic.” The government published the country’s draft new policy on the broadband spectrum, which included plans to shut down the 2G network by June 2024, while the shutdown of the 3G network is scheduled for March 30, 2025.

Mobile operator Safaricom Ethiopia announced the upcoming construction of a new data center in Addis Ababa. The company signed a land sub-lease agreement with Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) to build a new Tier-III quality “telco-cloud data center” in the latter’s ICT Park outside the capital, and is reportedly investing around $60 million into this project.
