After securing funding in November 2021, Open Access Data Centres (OADC) has been actively building and managing an expanding pan-African network of data center facilities. Presently, the company has operational sites in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria and South Africa.

A significant development for OADC came with the announcement of a strategic partnership with the UK's Console Connect. This collaboration aims to leverage Console Connect'sNetwork as a Service (NaaS) platform, granting African businesses access to major cloud providers both within and outside the region.

By utilizing the Console Connect platform, businesses can now seamlessly connect to OADC data center facilities spread across South Africa. Furthermore, these businesses gain the ability to procure colocation services at all four OADC South Africa core data center facilities through the Console Connect MeetingPlace.

What sets Console Connect apart from other NaaS platforms is its reliance on its own high-performance network. This network offers extensive coverage along the east and west coasts of Africa and spans over 50 countries worldwide. Console Connect's services will initially be accessible in the first four data centers, which include two facilities in Cape Town as well as centers in Johannesburg and Durban.

OADC's clients can conveniently request rack and sub-rack capacity tailored to meet their computing needs, whether at the edge or the core. This streamlines and optimizes the provisioning of compute resources at the point of demand.

To support its ambitious growth plans, OADC is investing a staggering $500 million in core and edge data center facilities across Africa over the next five years. In its first year of operation, OADC aims to deploy more than 30 data centers.

OADC has ambitious intentions to establish facilities in up to 20 countries within Africa, with potential locations including Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Somalia and Kenya.
