Africell has been named official sponsor of Association Sportive Vita Club – aka AS Vita Club – a leading team in the premier football league in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
AS Vita Club is one of Congo’s most iconic and successful football clubs. Established almost a century ago in 1935, the club has won numerous titles, including the DRC Cup, the DRC Championship and the African Champions League, flying the flag for Congolese football across the African continent and beyond. Boasting one of the largest fanbases of any club in the DRC, AS Vita Club is known for attracting big live audiences to the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa, making it a powerful brand and commercial opportunity.
As sponsor and technology partner, Africell will offer AS Vita Club and its supporters a range of products and services intended to enhance digital connectivity, boost performance and make it easier than ever to follow the action. The partnership includes special deals on cellular services for AS Vita Club fans, SMS broadcasting of live scores and technical assistance around major club events.
Africell is the only US-owned mobile network operator in Africa and, through the Africell Impact Foundation, invests in impact projects in areas including sports, education, entrepreneurship and healthcare. Africell was the official GSMA partner to the Gambia and Sierra Leone national football teams at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and recently agreed a multiyear partnership with NBA Africa to expand access to basketball in Angola, with an emphasis on participation by women and girls. In 2021, Africell launched the Congo River Marathon, the first mass-participation running event of its kind in central Africa.
